Making an Entrance

The entryway of a home reflects the personality of the family that lives there and my clients wanted their entrance to feel warm and welcome. They chose this sculptural painting which is made by a labour-intensive process of carving to reveal the layers hidden beneath. This space now reflects the client’s personality and draws the visitors in with its vibrant colors and intricate details.

Serene master bedroom

After working long hours, the clients wished for their master bedroom to be a restive and peaceful space. This seascape fits the bill with calming gradients of blue perfectly balanced by the warmer sand color. At first glance, it looks like an aerial photograph but it’s an encaustic painting made with many layers of pigmented beeswax. The painting seems to change based on the orientation of the sunlight in the room and at night, it seems to radiate a soft glow.

Colorful and calming bedroom

The client wanted more color in her bedroom while still wanting it to be a place of respite. One ask of the client was to support local, female artists. She loved the painting by a Bay Area artist who is inspired by its landscape and the waters around it. This artist is a daily painter, at 6000+ paintings and counting, and her mastery of color combination of cooler blues with warmer colors makes this a perfect painting to wind down with.

Conversation piece

This couple was looking for a piece that connected them to their ancient culture but with an unusual and contemporary composition. This painting contains a Sanskrit mantra and energies the dining space with its orange underpainting coming through. To bring out the central color in the painting, I helped them pick an accent color with a matching blue. This is definitely a conversation piece!

Aboriginal Art

This art sourced from Australia is an age old pattern and technique used by aboriginals called ‘dot painting’. These paintings represent features on the native land or stories passed down through generations. Artist earn the right to represent these stories and are given permission by the community to paint them. This abstract painting provides the perfect backdrop to the Buddha sitting in meditation under it and complements the golden yellow of the Buddha’s robe. The swirls of the painting could be interpreted in many ways, adding interest and movement to the space.
